Route 58 - Metro Tunnel works – Friday 2 February to Tuesday 6 February

  • Works in preparation for major construction of the Metro Tunnel are underway in South Melbourne.
  • Yarra Trams, on behalf of the Melbourne Metro Rail Authority (MMRA), is building a new accessible platform stop in Park Street, South Melbourne.
  • This project will keep Melbourne moving during construction of the Metro Tunnel Project.
  • The new Park Street tram stop will be located west of Wells Street and Palmerston Crescent, and will replace the existing Stop 119 which is currently located at the intersection of Kings Way and Park Street.
  • The upgrades to Stop 119 will provide improved access to the tram network during and following completion of the Metro Tunnel Project. The stop will have improved lighting, shelters and passenger information displays, as well as improved accessibility.


Service changes

10pm Friday 2 February to last tram Tuesday 6 February 2018

  • Buses will replace Route 58 trams between Stop 115 Casino/Southbank and Stop 123 Fawkner Park.
  • Buses will service temporary stops along the route
  • Tram replacement buses will be accessible depending on availability. Customer Service Employees will be available for passengers requiring assistance with their journey.

Park Street platform opening

To minimise disruption to passengers, Route 58 tram services will resume as normal from first tram on Wednesday 7 February. To complete important finishing works, and ensure the new stop is fully completed and ready for use, the platform will not open until Saturday 17 February. In the interim, passengers can continue to use the existing Stop 119 Park Street stop located on Kings Way.


Local traffic management and lane closures on Park St

  • Please avoid the major works area wherever possible
  • We recommend our passengers seek alternative travel options during this time
  • We recommend you visit Public Transport Victoria to best plan your journey
  • Park Street closed in both directions between St Kilda Road and Kings Way
  • No access into Park Street from Palmerston Crescent, Wells Street, Millers Lane or Little Bank Street
  • Please expect delays and allow extra time for your journey
  • Normal tram services will resume from 7 February (5am)
